Went back to the barber at Geylang and can’t say he didn’t do a good job… that was why I kept going back. This entry is going to be pretty challenging due to the need of contents to go with so many pictures.
I was thinking about political reforms… again. I know very well Singapore is not yet ready for a major reform; at least the society will need a major ‘haircut’ to the basis, to reshape things up from scratch and then… Whatever it is, Education must link to Manpower, Manpower must link to social issues, and we also need reforms for Health Care that is currently impossible… because we lack talents, and talents can take forever to reach power. We have a couple of advanced medical developments on the loose soon, this will target the aging population readily… this will need financing. The basic problem about aging can be solved relatively with ‘anti-aging’ compounds.
If people can be revitalised after they have aged, supposedly they can function… work longer and work meaningfully even in manual positions.
It’s power-play now that bugs me. When there is a need to look into reforms… it’s very disgusting that needed reforms will be hindered by mere power-plays, but politics is after all… power. There is a need to ‘educate’ this moronic world what sort of leaders will be needed to safeguard the future. Before that… snobs will still rule the day, and there will be no peace… no future.
This is Scope… If you share this belief of mine, so you are not that alone. Merit-based governance is horrible as many talents are wasted… Talent-based governance must replace the shit left behind by the past.
But I fear the old success story will blind the current generations long enough to deprive dire need of reforms.
Remaking economy is not a slogan… and it can only be possible with talents… real hardcore talents in governance. This element is precisely what the current government is lacking.
If there is a future… it seems unlikely a fight is avoidable.
Seriously, I prefer to quit.
[Like A Rose] My biggest regret in life is probably losing Kate. She is gone and there is nothing that I can do. I am lovesick. So love can be a horrible disease at times, to some people, it’s permanent. I should have married her and fuck cared everything else. But I didn’t move; and when I tried, it’s no longer possible.
No one can substitute Kate. She is the one and only, and she’s lost. Her life completely changed. Probably her personality changed too.
I try not to think about her.
It is very hard. Everyday I must keep myself in check. It’s unfair to the other women, but Kate is special. I knew it when I first saw her. I tried to avoid… but I failed. Fate made us meet again.
Love can be a very tough shit to take. Gosh…
Kate has aged fast. I don’t care. I can’t care. It’s the feel that lingers, not her face… not her body… it’s her soul. I wanted her soul very much… just like Belle Swan to Edward Cullen. I can’t bear to see her age. It breaks my heart so badly I can barely breath. She is a mortal… Seeing her wither is such pain… so much pain that I refuse to confront her again. It only seems like yesterday… that we spoke at the bench in college. I don’t know why… my heart shook when I came close to her. I knew she is the One… she is Forever.
The pain is making me stronger than I never expected to be. Years of avoiding her… I have thought I was safe. How pitiful for my naive thought…
I must grow stronger… till I can free myself from the One. I am getting stronger… I am resisting her facebook. As long as we don’t cross paths again, I’d be ok. I miss her… so very much. But I’d withstand the cold… I have to. I have no choice. I can do it… every day, every hour, every min… every second.
Of all women in this fucking world… I have fallen in love with Kate.
I wish we have never met.
How to rescue the immune system
February 25, 2012 by admin
In a study published in Nature Medicine, Loyola researchers report on a promising new technique that potentially could turn immune system killer T cells into more effective weapons against infections and possibly cancer.
The technique involves delivering DNA into the immune system’s instructor cells. The DNA directs these cells to overproduce a specific protein that jumpstarts important killer T cells. These killer cells are typically repressed in patients who have HIV or cancer, said JosA© A. Guevara-Patino, MD, PhD, senior author of the study. Guevara is an Associate Professor in the Oncology Institute of Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine.
Guevara and colleagues reported their technique proved effective in jumpstarting defective immune systems in immuno-compromised mice and in human killer T cells taken from people with HIV.
Guevara said a clinical trial in cancer patients could begin in about three years.
The study involved killer cells, known as CD8 T cells, and their instructor cells, known as antigen-presenting cells. The instructor cells instruct CD8 T cells to become killer T cells to kill infected cells or cancer cells — and to remain vigilant if they reencounter pathogens or if the cancer comes back.
In addition to getting instructions from the antigen-presenting cells, CD8 T cells need assistance from helper T cells to become effective killers. Without this assistance, the killer T cells can’t do their job.
In patients who have HIV, the virus destroys helper T cells. In cancer patients, helper T cells also are affected. Among a tumor’s insidious properties is its ability to prevent killer T cells from attacking tumors. It does this by putting helper T cells into a suppressed stage, limiting their ability to assist CD8 T cells, said Andrew Zloza, MD, PhD, one of the leading authors of the study.
In the study, snippets of DNA were delivered into skin instructor cells by a device known as a gene gun. The DNA directed the instructor cells to produce specific proteins, which act like molecular keys. When CD8 T cells interact with the instructor cells, the keys unlock the CD8 T cells’ killer properties — jumpstarting them to go out and kill pathogens and cancer cells.
With the use of this technique, the killer T cells would not need the assistance of helper T cells. So even if a tumor were to put the helper T cells in a suppressive cage, the killer T cells would still be able to go out and kill cancer cells. Researchers expect that future studies using the technique will make it applicable to many diseases, including cancer.###
The study received major funding from the national office of the American Cancer Society, the Illinois chapter of the American Cancer Society and the National Institutes of Health.

I mentioned this in a ‘Notice’ but I reckon it is important enough to leave a permanent record of this paper in this blog. Other than physics, I am very much interested in biochemistry. I don’t really care if you understand what all those papers say, but they are important and I read Breakthrough Digest regularly to be updated of the latest ‘equipment’ for the body.
With this discovery, very soon… we can have a secondary immune system set up artificially… The need to fight HIV and Cancer can never be understated, and we need such scientific progresses to aid mankind because if we can defeat infections and cancers… there is really very little nature can do to kill you lest by an accident. I hope Singapore will keep itself abreast with such development and most importantly… be ready to introduce such wonderful advances into our lives.
[Jagged Alliance: Back In Action] After so many years, ‘Jagged Alliance’ is back in action! I am quite surprised to see the copies at Challenger the other day because I tried ‘Jagged Alliance 2’ and it was a great game. Too bad the new ‘Back In Action’ is only a nominee for the best game of the year. Honestly, it’s probably better than most 3D shooting games which I am getting bored of; seriously, ‘Jagged Alliance’ should be a best game of 2011… I am glad I see ‘Back In Action’, and I am keen to get a copy. If you have not tried the game, try it.
I have watched some introductions about this game on Youtube and I do hope the promised in-game tutorial would be comprehensive enough. It’s basically running an army of mercenaries and playing a strategy cum tactical game taking bases after bases, and eventually to eliminate a ‘Queen’. Before Fallout 4 hits the market by don’t-know-when, ‘Jagged Alliance: Back In Action’ should promise hours and days and weeks of raw entertainment.
I actually prefer a turn-based ‘Jagged Alliance’, but this should be ok if the tutorial can get me start well enough. It’s been a long time since I last played ‘Jagged Alliance 2’ and this copy helps recall the fun I had that many years back. Oh… How time flies.
Just when I thought I would die of boredom… This is certainly good news. I enjoyed ‘Jagged Alliance 2’, I think I’d love ‘Jagged Alliance 3’.
This is Leon, who happens to have the most adorable giggles possible in this world. He is turning 3yo in a few months. I envy him… though I must say I used to be a baby too. LOL~ That was so long ago… He wasn’t in the nursery these few days. It is said that chicken pox is plaguing the nursery now, so just as well… Leon has been home for now because he got a slight fever a few days back.
I hope he can talk soon because I have always wanted to teach him chess.
Hopefully, he’d be a good match. Boy, just go on laughing… all your fucking life. Are you also an immortal, Leon…? May my love guide you well.
He makes me wants to be a baby myself. Life was so much more simpler as a baby… all games… all the curiousities in the world…
Ignorance is such bliss.
